Brewery productivity is key for Peroni Brewery, which is part of Asahi Europe Ltd. and has been operating in Italy since 1846. Peroni’s beers, such as Nastro Azzurro, are recognized across the globe and the brewery’s production volume exceeds five million hectoliters annually.

Peroni Brewery strives for the highest brewery productivity, best taste characteristics and maximizing shelf life of the beer. For this, reliable dissolved oxygen (DO) measurements are critical. They were using amperometric dissolved oxygen sensors, which were a constant cause of concern due to their slow response, high cost of maintenance and low brewery productivity.

The brewery looked around for another solution and found the METTLER TOLEDO InPro 6970i optical DO sensors, which are designed specifically for filling line applications. As opposed to amperometric sensors, which require many hours of polarization after maintenance before they can be used, the InPro 6970i optical DO sensor does not need to be polarized and is available instantly. The METTLER TOLEDO InPro 6970i sensor is a trace level optical oxygen sensor especially designed for brewery applications. The sensor can be maintained easily and quickly, leading to enhanced process safety. The InPro 6970i sensor has a faster response time compared to amperometric sensors. In addition, the sensing element on the sensor is immune to pressure shocks and extreme CIP cycle conditions.

The InPro 6970i sensor is equipped with Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM). This is METTLER TOLEDO's digital sensor technology, which combines the advantages of in-line analytical measurements with modern technology. Among its many features, ISM monitors probe “health” and predicts when sensor calibration, cleaning, and replacement should be performed. All system data including calibration and diagnostics information are stored on the sensor.
